About Peaks Island, Maine

There are few places more idyllic than a Maine island. Surrounded by the ocean, fresh summer breezes, fall foliage, or softly falling snow, Peaks Island is the perfect year-round vacation destination. Peaks Island is one of over 200 islands in picturesque Casco Bay and is home to about 1,000 year-round residents. During the summer months, the population triples as people flock to the island to enjoy its unique charm and beauty.

The island is approximately 2 miles long and 1 mile wide at its widest point. It takes about an hour to walk the circumference or about 20 minutes on a bike. There is an inviting beach area and lots to explore, including: art galleries, historic tours, horseback riding, cross country skiing, ice-skating, and ocean kayaking.

Getting to the island is easy. It’s just a 15 minute ferry ride on Casco Bay Lines which offers a number of daily ferry runs year-round.
